OUR HISTORY
"Do not despise the day of small beginnings"
Just Around the Corner (or more known to young people as "JAC") was formed in 1998 by Mr & Mrs Sam & Yvonne Milligan and a small group of dedicated people from local churches in Woodley, Berkshire, England. This group which formed our first "JAC team" were passionate about supporting young people and started by meeting them on the streets where they were congregating, getting to know them and walking alongside them during their personal challenges.
JAC adopted a youth work model detached youth work and purchased purpose built vehicles to help them deliver this vital work to youth in the community. By 2011, several "JAC teams" had been established in the community supporting youth in different neighbourhoods, with the support of local councils and donations from local residents. Over 20 years later, JAC is still delivering detached youth work!
From small beginnings, our work has expanded into 1:1 mentoring, group work in schools and family work. We also work with Teenagers who have anxiety issues through a drop-in, a cafe, a market stall and community thrift store. In spring of 2013, we started building our activity centre and stables which we call Rehoboth, meaning: "Now the LORD has given us room and we will flourish in the land". This is a verse in the bible (Genesis 26:22) that is special to us at JAC. At Rehoboth we provide mentoring through Equine Assisted Learning, arts & crafts, horticulture, cookery, construction and education.
In 2016 JAC established a core group of individuals in Canada to plan programs, to reach youth in the local neighbourhoods of Ontario, Canada. JAC formalises its first international branch - Just Around the Corner (JAC) Canada - as a non profit organisation. Where will JAC go next!
